One of the questions on our application to renew our license is this:
The method of takedown in which I practice is :
Then there are several options, two of which are as follows:
Voice writer with backup.
Voice writer without backup.
I'm not sure which one I should check. I tested as a voice writer without backup; however, it is my practice to also have a backup recording.
It bothers me that the word practice is underlined. It is my understanding that several years ago reporters were allowed to use backup recordings to pass the test. Is that Voice Writer with backup for reporters who tested using that method OR is it for people like me that tested without a backup but choose to use one on a daily basis? I'm confused.
The question has always been there and I've always checked the method that I tested in. For some reason, it jumped out at me this year because I noticed that the word practice was underlined. _________________ Renee Tomlinson, CCR

Maybe I should try asking this question another way.
For all you voice writers who tested without backup, which block to you check on the application, voice writer with backup or voice writer without backup? _________________ Renee Tomlinson, CCR

Interesting.
I've asked a handful of reporters and so far I've gotten about a 50/50 response. _________________ Renee Tomlinson, CCR
